Pera Caroline
France
Caroline Pera, a French-American artist born in Milan in 1987, studied at Central St. Martins in London and is based in Milan. Her portraits blend art with psychology and anthropology, using a quasi-scientific approach to document and reconstruct character traits. Engaging deeply with her subjects, she creates puzzle-like portraits rich in personal narratives. Pera has exhibited in Milan, London, and New York, gaining recognition, including being a finalist for the Deutsche Bank Awards in 2010.

Hand selected by our curators
A vivid portrayal of the Shiva Festival in Kathmandu, this collection captures the striking contrasts within the lives of the Babas. Pera Caroline translates their meditative presence, vibrant fabrics, and ascetic existence into expressive portraits. Through color and form, the works explore the tension between self-renunciation and personal identity, stillness and spectacle.
