Plaka Ylli
Albania
Ylli Plaka, born in Tirana in 1966, is a renowned sculptor and ceramic artist who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Tirana. After moving to Italy in 1991, he immersed himself in ceramic traditions, earning accolades like the 1st Prize at the 2009 International Maiolica Festival. Plaka’s emotive sculptures, celebrated for their technical mastery, are displayed in public and private collections worldwide. His collaborations with designers such as Mendini and Pistoletto further enrich his work, solidifying his influential role in contemporary ceramic art.

This totem is composed of ten overlapping colored oval faces, each perforated and inserted from above into a pole glued onto a ceramic base shaped like the face of Mother Earth. The composition consists of 10+1 pieces, creating a symbolic connection between the earth and infinity.
