Italy

Giulio De Mitri, born in Taranto, is one of the most innovative and experimental artists in Southern Italy. Since the 1970s, he has explored various artistic forms, including signal, performance, assemblage, painting, object art, environmental installations, participatory performances, photography, and video-installations. His work blends planning and process into both iconic and aniconic visions, underpinned by a strong conceptual foundation. De Mitri has presented numerous significant exhibitions, installations, and performances in Italy and internationally.

De Mitri’s light boxes, infused with ultramarine tones, combine LEDs and optical fibers to illuminate Lambda prints on PVC and plexiglass. Evoking the abyss and marine life, the shifting blue hues recall the vastness of the sea and the infinity of the sky. These luminous objects create a sense of disorientation, inviting the viewer to dive into deep waters or traverse cosmic pathways.
