About
Ryan McNamara gained early recognition in the New York art scene for highly energetic and sometimes surreal performances that inspire, provoke and entertain. His static artworks are papier-mâché extensions of these live events, primarily composed of multicoloured photocopies of action shots taken at the time. His collaborative works provide these collages with an amusing cast of characters, whose photocopied presence gestures towards the dynamism of the original artworks. Looking at this low-definition documentation, the audience is encouraged to piece together past performances. Although the material works may carry many retrospective possibilities, they also stand alone to create new meanings in the imaginations of the audience
