About the artist

Chiusano Carla

Italy

Carla Chiusano, born in Turin in 1964, left her hometown at 6 months and returned briefly as a young adult. Constantly moving, she sought something to make her feel at home, and found that in painting and humorous drawing. These became her "invisible friends," comforting her and helping her make sense of her experiences. Carla uses humoristic drawings to rebel against society and communicate her feelings directly. She worked with Bulgari creating comic books for their top clients. She believes life should be taken seriously, but never oneself or society too seriously.

About the artwork

Bonobo

Paintings. Oil on canvas.

Hand selected by our curators

The white color bears and tigers inspired the artist to create works that gaze directly into people's eyes, while the Bonobo, featured in the High Society exhibition, reflects the animal's unique behavior—engaging in sex for pleasure rather than reproduction. The more females he encounters, the higher his status in society.
