About the artwork

Curaçao Woman

Paintings. Mixed technique on linen.

Hand selected by our curators

Curaçao Woman is a metaphorical representation of an ancient Caribbean figure. This mixed media work on linen canvas is abstract yet evokes female forms reminiscent of prehistoric Venus. The black and yellow strokes define the figure, with blue suggesting shadow, while colors, ribbing, and splashes explore beauty, limit, and transgression.
